Representing Our Values

We know what we need most in a Congressman. We need someone that will faithfully represent our values while in Washington. We need someone that will not compromise our values once there. We also know how rare such a person is. When the Washington crowd fawns over Congress like they’re royalty, it’s no wonder so few hold steady to their convictions.

Nevertheless, holding our values steady is what we need MOST in Washington.

Professional politics in Washington has become a game. It’s packaged and reported to us like a spectator sport: “The Democrats have health care on the two yard line; can they punch it into the endzone? . . . or will Republicans mount a goal-line defense?”

Just as rookies in professional sports must spend time sitting on the bench until they are ready to “get in the game”, so must freshman in professional politics. Professional sports – and Professional Washington – are played on such a different level, that it takes time to get “up to speed.”

Indeed, this is a prime incentive to keep re-electing incumbents that do not need to spend that time getting up to speed.

In order to be that million dollar play in Washington, however, you must first compromise your values. You must be willing to trade this value or that for this committee membership or favor, etc. etc. In order to “get in the game”, you must become a professional player in Washington. We know that professional politicians in Washington do not reflect our values, and that’s the point.

The problem is the game. First, Washington shouldn’t be discussing things like health care in the first place. There is no Constitutional authority for such a discussion. Just as important, the problem really isn’t whether there are more Democrats than Republicans in Washington or vice versa, but that Washington is filled with professional players and professional agendas. No matter which side wins, WE LOSE.

It’s time to stop playing Washington’s game.

We know the solution to protect our values in Washington. You’ve told me this repeatedly. We need to send citizen-legislators to Washington and replace them before they can become professional politicians.

You don’t need a Congressman that “fits right in” to that game. You need a Congressman that places your values ahead of going along to get along. The values you need in a Congressman aren’t learned “on the job” in the viper pits of Washington. They are learned growing up in our communities.

That might mean that your Congressman votes no on the majority of issues. It might mean that he’s not bringing home millions in pork to use your own money to bribe your next vote.

It means that we collectively understand that Washington IS the problem and that we refuse to play its game.

If we are to take back our government, we must be willing to send a different kind of Congressman to Washington. We must be willing to send someone actually representative of us that will faithfully represent our values while there. No. Matter. What.

I’m running for Congress because I’m sick and tired of my Biblical and Constitutionally based values being sold out in Washington time and time again. I’m running because it’s time to ensure that our values are faithfully represented.

There is a movement growing to take back our government. This is ground zero. Your vote can have tremendous impact in 2010. We must stop playing Washington’s game. We can do that one Congressional Seat at a time. We can do that right here in District 17. This is OUR Time. This is OUR Place. 2010 is OUR Vote.

Send your values to Washington. Send someone to Washington that understands that faithfully representing the values of District 17 is the only reason to be in Washington.

I’m asking for your vote.

Timothy.
