What We Want in Our Next Congressman

I’ve talked with thousands of citizens like you in this district over the last eight months since I began campaigning for office. I consistently hear you say that you want three things in your next Congressman. Let’s talk about what we want and need in our next Congressman.

1. We want a Congressman that will actually vote our values.

When we hold Congressman Edwards’ feet to the fire, he is worried enough to vote our concerns. Our voices do have power, so keep it up. The problem is that when Chet doesn’t think we are paying attention, he votes with Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and the Democrats in Congress 97% of the time. The fact of the matter is that Chet Edwards is a Liberal Democrat. In the last Congress, he voted more consistently with the liberal agenda than California Liberal Maxine Waters.

It’s time for a Congressman that will faithfully represent our values in Washington. To do that, we much elect a Congressman more interested in the Constitution and our Bible-based values than in playing the game and “fitting in”.

I am THE most Conservative Candidate in this race.

2.We want a Congressman that is available to us.

Have you called or written Chet Edwards’ office? Are you tired of getting form letters in response? Our Congressman must be available to us, his employer. He must hear from us when he’s doing a good job, and when he should be taken to the woodshed. We shouldn’t have to drag him kicking and screaming to a Town Hall Meeting.

I consider it a primary function of our Congressman to address our First Amendment right to “petition the government for redress of grievances”. I believe that our Congressman should routinely be available to us by phone, and in person, in the district. When we call to see how he will vote on an issue, his staff should be able to tell us how he will vote and point us to a website with a detailed explanation of his vote. Any “form letter” we get should be little more than a confirmation of a meaning exchange between our Congressman and us.

As a candidate, I am dedicating 8pm-10pm everyday as time to spend on the phone talking with you one-on-one about the issues facing our district and our nation. Feel free to call me anytime, but this time is set aside specifically for that purpose. My personal number for this purpose is 979-575-6204. If I’m on the phone with another citizen from our district, leave a message and I’ll call you back. Call me and let’s talk. You won’t get just a form letter from me. I will hold similar telephone hours to talk one-on-one with you as your Congressman. I will also make it a priority to routinely be in the district in public and published places for you to meet with me.

3. We want a Congressman that isn’t a professional politician.

I’m a Registered Nurse. Until this past week, I was working full-time in that capacity. Now, I’m working full-time for you to get your values faithfully represented in Washington. (On this past Thursday morning after my last shift at work as an RN, my wife jokingly said to me, “So, you’re unemployed. . .” I replied, “No, Ma’am, I now work full-time for our values and this district.”)

If we are serious about changing the deafness in Washington, we must be willing to send a different kind of person to Washington. When we send “the smartest boys in the room” what we get is a Congressman that thinks he knows better than us. Why wouldn’t he? The values we need in our next Congressman simply aren’t learned “on the job” in the professional pits of Washington. They are learned over a life-time, right here at home. We need a Congressman that knows that staying faithful to our values is more important than “fitting right in” in Washington.

This is the time for a grass-roots revolution to be sent to Washington. This is the time to elect a different kind of candidate. This is the time to elect a candidate that is actually representative of YOU. This is OUR Time. This is OUR Place. 2010 is OUR Vote.

Come, join us and lets take back America by restoring OUR values to governance.

~faith,
Timothy.
